For those who have applied to universities through UCAS, are you aware of what’s next?
If you have already submitted your application through UCAS, what's the next step? Cyclopes Education will walk you through.
After applying for university, you will eventually receive responses from the university:
- Conditional offer
- Unconditional offer (for students who already have final DSE, A-Level or IB scores if taken the previous year)
- Reject
‼ Further assessment (e.g. request for additional exams or interviews)
For students, after the universities have replied with all of their offer decisions, there will be a designated day where students will be required to make firm and insurance choices between two universities (the exact date is not fixed and it depends on when everyone makes their decisions).
📌Firm choice
Actually, firm choice can be called the first choice, but its meaning is not that simple. The university chosen as a firm choice will reserve a dormitory for you. Many students face problems with accommodation and don't want to rush to find a place. Choosing a firm choice generally has a relatively higher requirement for grades. If your final grades are only slightly lower than the university's requirements or you miss a minor grade, the school may still have the opportunity to accept you (mainly depending on the university’s admission flexibility and the enrollment situation that year).
📌Insurance choice
As you all know, it's the second choice. However, the insurance choice does not guarantee accommodation. Only when the firm choice is rejected can the insurance choice be confirmed. So everyone, remember to pay attention to the difference between firm and insurance choices and make the right choice for yourself.
